Essential Questions to Ask Sellers

Now that we have gone over the basics over how to buy text links and why they are needed, its time to address an equally important issue. As with any business transaction, you should always make sure that you get your money’s worth in the end. Text link sellers are usually looking to make as much money as possible using their domain and will be looking to try and shortchange you.

There is, however, an easy way to circumvent this problem, and that is to do your homework. One way a seller can take advantage of you is to only display the link on one page of their site. You should, for the most part, only pay for links that are displayed on the main page of a site, if not every page. Make sure to ask the seller what his or her policy is where links are displayed and back out of deals that don’t sound good.

And never feel bad about checking out the seller’s blog and its info. Does he or she say its a sports-related blog? Check and make sure that a) the topic is indeed sports and b) the posts are full of actual content and not spam-filled filth that no one wants to read. Make sure you pay for sites that have good content that others, like you, would want to read and check over and over again. Remember that once you pay someone for a text link, he or she does not have to guarentee any sort of traffic.

Also check the PageRank and other information that can be readily found on the internet yourself. Don’t take the site owner’s word for it when he or she says his domain has a PR 2 rating. Find a free PageRank checker and verify the information for yourself.

The bottom-line here is that you should never take anything for granted. Money is not something that should be given away carelessly; do your homework and you’ll be better off because of it.

Finding Willing Trading Partners

One of the easiest, and financially smartest, ways to build up text links is to trade them with someone else. People who are staring new websites and blogs for the first time often cannot afford to buy expensive back links from every big site in the market. Luckily, in just about every subject covered on the internet, there are some people willing to help for free. When looking to get linked to by more sites, look for trading partners first and you will have a higher PageRank in no time.

The first thing to do when looking for trading partners is to check forums and discussion boards where others may be looking for similar favors. Message boards like this one allow users to actively search and seek others willing to link to a site for free. Remember that trading text links means that you will be on the hook for posting a link as much as the other person is. For a beginning site, however, this is not a big deal. As long as the site you trade links with pertains to a similar or branched topic, your site or blog will look just fine.

Once you use the message board above to find a couple of trading partners, you have made a good start. But resting on your laurels this early is not a good idea. Each link to your site is like a vote, and as with all democratic functions, the sites with the most votes will win the most search results. Start searching Google and Yahoo for sites on similar topics. If you have a basketball blog related to the Boston Celtics, feel free to search other team blogs, such as the Phoenix Suns. Even other sports sites, like baseball or football, are good places to trade links with.

Most of these sites you search for will have e-mail addresses for the owner or main contributor to the site/blog. Send them a message and kindly (always be nice) ask for a back link. If you have a good site with interesting entries, chances are you will receive many positive replies. Most blog or small site owners know what it is like when first starting a new spot on the internet and are happy to help.

Get as many text links as you can through trade before even considering purchasing any. Good luck!

Buying Links for Beginners

When looking to buy text links, there are several options open for new blog or website owners. Before you can begin looking, however, we need to, again, go over some ground rules. The first rule is to always try to trade text links instead of buying them. If you offer to buy first and then try to trade, you will end up paying more than you needed to. A lot of site owners are nice and remember what low-traffic days are like. The second, and more important, rule is that you should mostly only buy/trade links with sites on related matters. Don’t buy a text link from a flower potting site for your sports blog.

There are two main ways to find sites willing to sell text links to you. The first, and easiest, method is to find a forum with a marketplace that allows links to be bought or sold. These forums, like the one linked to in this post, allow hundreds of site and blog owners to openly negotiate prices and terms on neutral ground. They also allow a text link purchaser to look through various offers and pick out the one that best fits his or her site. You can even post your own ad offering to buy certain site’s links, specifying what PageRank and topic the site must have.

The other way to buy text links is to search Google. Your main objective in buying text links, after all, is to become one of the top results on Google’s search engine. So why not look at which sites occupy that spot right now? Say you are about to start a San Fransisco 49ers blog. Wouldn’t it be useful to have the established and prominent 49er blogs linking to you? Search Google, find blog/site owner e-mail addresses, and send an e-mail with your offer. Remember to try and trade links first (in my personal experience most site owners are willing to help out) and only offer to buy a link if they refuse to trade.

If you get a bunch of sites linking to you, your PageRank and traffic should eventually go up. This is, however, just the absolute basics to text linking.

Why Get Text Links?

Whatever the reason a person has to start a new blog or website, most everyone wants traffic coming in to their creation. Nobody wants to spend time making an online visiting spot only to have no one show up. The popular misconception is that a person only has to make a quality website/blog and it will be just a matter of time before thousands discover it. After all, there are millions upon millions of people searching the web at any given time…right?

Wrong.

What a lot of website newbies don’t know is that new sites are not automatically picked up by major search engines like Google and Yahoo. In fact, they are ignored altogether until they are either submitted in a form or become immensely popular. The best option for most new sites is submitting a form, a process which takes up to three to six months to work out.

Even when a search engine has your site in its database, there is still no guarentee of it showing up in searches. Google, in particular, organizes websites based on relevance and usefulness. They calculate how to rank sites, using their PageRank system, by seeing how many other sites link to your site and how many times a certain keyword shows up. In example, say you have a website on dog collars. The best way to ensure traffic would be to use the term “dog collars” as much as possible, where it logically fits into text of course, and to have other relevant sites, other dog or collar sites, link to you.

Now you can ask for free text links and hope for the best. Sending e-mails and messages to bigger site owners never hurts. But more often than not, you will need to find high page ranked sites and buy text links from them. The more text links you buy, the better chance you have of driving up traffic. And the more traffic you have, the better chance you have of making money off of banners and other ads.

Sounds simple right? Well it really isn’t. But keep checking this blog and all the details will be explained in time.
